Want to know what’s really outdated and completely counter-productive? Having your assistant open the door to your waiting room, and calling out your patient’s name into a room full of people. This is about as charming and personal as a New York City subway ride, during rush hour.
Sure, if you’re waiting outside a courtroom… or sitting down handcuffed inside a police station, waiting to get booked on charges… you’d expect this to be standard operating procedure.
But when you’re going to see a medical professional, with years of training, and hundreds of thousands of dollars of equipment inside their office… you’d expect, and you deserve a more comforting, and certainly a more personal experience, than this.
But don’t worry — fixing this is very simple, so let me explain: Behind your front counter, you supply your team with a basic diagram of your waiting room, printed on copy paper.
Once your patient sits down, you have your receptionist take note of where the patient is sitting, and you have her mark this down, along with what your patient is wearing, on this diagram.
So for instance, you might have something like “Mr. Smith, red golf shirt,” written down on the chair where Mr. Smith is sitting, on the diagram of your office.
Then, when it’s time for Mr. Smith to go in for his exam… instead of your staff person poking their head through the door, and screaming out “Mr. Smith,” as if this were a television casting call… instead, you have your team member walk out to the waiting room and walk right over to Mr. Smith, and greet him.
Imagine how much nicer this is, when you’re being greeted quietly, directly, and personally… with a warm and friendly smile… and then being personally escorted into your treatment room — as opposed to the conventional cattle call every other “average” dentist in town uses…
This makes you and your entire organization look MUCH classier!
Not only is this much more tactful, but it’s also much more personable. And I assure you, you’ll be the ONLY dentist they’ve ever experienced this with.
CDA team – how can we make this happen??!
