Hey team,
So Dr Swayze does not have hard and fast rules for this kind of thing yet. The rcdso is working with the public health units to create a clear “recipe” style list of expectations from dental offices but this will likely not be released until the summer of 2018.
For now, my understanding was that as long as there is some record of the sterilization cycle number, date, maximum pressure, and temperature that is actually physically recorded, that would satisfy the health unit. He suggested perhaps running one cycle per day with a class 5 indicator bag. If for some reason we were not doing enough record keeping and the public health unit came to visit our office, they would simply advise us on how to improve instead of the harsh punishment we were seeing in June/July where full offices were being shut down and letters were being sent to patients.
The public health unit has calmed down significantly since their discussions with the rcdso.
If it was my office, I would probably just have a log book to record those details of sterilization and skip buying an expensive printer.
Hope this helps and sorry it’s not super clear cut yet. Dr Swayze expressed his frustrations on this matter and is promising a better system in the near future.
Shane
